Daegu Metropolitan City, is the 4th largest metropolitan area in Korea with respect to both population and commerce after Seoul, Busan, and Incheon. It is the capital of Gyeongsangbuk-do province and divided into 7 wards ("Gu") and 1 county ("Gun"). Daegu sits in a basin surrounded by low mountains and has a number of popular parks including Apsan, Palgongsan, Dalseong, and Duryu Parks. So its climate is hotter than the rest of Korea during the summer. Similarly, in winter, cold air lies in the basin. Cause of this weather condition, the quality of the apples grown around Daegu is renowned around East Asia. And this city is a major textile center for Korea, producing vast amounts of cloth and clothing. Especially, ‘The ‘Milano project’ is being promoted in the provision of the 21st century to become the Mecca of Asian textile industries in the late of 1990s. It also serves as a major hub for metal and machine industries, with several manufacturing plants from the nation's largest conglomerates. In this way, Daegu is growing as one of the competitive economic powers in the world. |
